Telltale's Batman: The Enemy Within Ep 1 - Review

On this episode of Confessions of a Basement Dweller, host Jake Essoe reviews Telltale's Batman: The Enemy Within, Episode One "The Enigma"

In this latest chapter, both Bruce Wayne and Batman will be forced into precarious new roles. Which of Batman's new allies will you choose to trust? And how deep into the darkness will you let Bruce descend?

Batman: The Enemy Within will be a standalone product separate from the first season of Batman: The Telltale Series and is licensed by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and based on DC's iconic character. Episode one, 'The Enigma,' has been rated 'Mature' by the ESRB. Now available for download on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.

Assassin's Creed Movie Review

The Harold & Maudecast reviews the Now Playing film, ASSASSIN'S CREED produced by and starring Michael Fassbender, based on the Ubisoft video game.

Just as he thinks he's about to go straight to hell, convicted murderer and death row inmate Callum Lynch (Fassbender) finds himself the lab rat of a mysterious secret society. Hooked up for the VR experience of his life -- think Matrix + Dr. Octavius, Callum goes on a ride through his ancestral playground as Aguilar circa 15th Century Spain. Callum amasses a lot of mad skills which he will need to fight the powerful Templar organization in present day.

This story is a confusing mess. Not sure who the producers are targeting, video game fans, ain't gonna satisfy, new audiences? No way. Oddly the production level is super high with an incredible score and sound editing and sound effects that are Oscar worthy. Visually some stunning things in this film. Fassbender along with a formidable cast of acting heavy weights, Jeremy Irons, Marion Cotillard, Charlotte Rampling, Michael Kenneth Williams and Brendan Gleeson, are completely wasted on this go nowhere story that relies to heavily on building a plot that has no foundation. Our advice to Hollywood, stop making movies based on video games. It doesn't work. 5/10

Release date: December 21, 2016 (USA)
Director: Justin Kurzel

MAN vs SNAKE: The Long and Twisted Tale of Nibbler - Review

We review the Now Streaming film, MAN vs SNAKE: The Long and Twisted Tale of Nibbler, the inspirational and outrageous true story of one man's quest for the highest video game score ever. MAN vs. SNAKE is the Directorial debut by Editors Tim Kinzy, Andrew Seklir (Battlestar Gallactica: Razor). Tim McVey broke the billion dollar mark getting the highest video game score ever back in 1983 when he scored big on Nibbler, a lessor celebrated game under the shadow of the rockstars of the video arcades in the 80s, Donkey Kong and Pac Man. After decades, some questions about the validity of his record and a new challenger, Tim goes for it, again. He's an unlikely leading man who becomes the hero you find yourself rooting for in this delightful gem of a documentary. Fans of King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters, look out for some familiar faces to appear, Billy Mitchell, Walter Day and more of the folks from the wonderful world of video arcade games. 9/10
